Here she is. After the pandemic, the Bologna Clock Tower, an architectural jewel in Piazza Maggiore, reopens to the public. A true monument that characterizes the profile of the city. Given the decrees and the new rules, visits go by time slots, to allow you to live the experience in total safety.
The Clock Tower
Impossible to escape you, a Bologna, in Piazza Maggiore, you can find it right above the Palazzo del Comune. The Torre dell'Orologio or Torre Accursio, is 770 years old, and with its 36 meters stands out over the square, one of the artistic (and visual) references of Bologna for centuries. It was at the center of the celebrations when Alexander VI Borgia was elected Pope. Legend has it that it was the fireworks, fired on that occasion, that damaged the top of the tower, later rebuilt by Giovanni da Brensa. A perfect tower to climb to enjoy the view and take unforgettable photos. Bologna will enchant you with its wonderful red roofs. The huge clock has been on the facade of the tower since 1444. How to visit the Tower
The visits can be made from Tuesday to Friday from 10 to 19 (the ascent for the last shift is at 18.20), with a frequency of 40 minutes and entrances every 20 minutes. Each tour has a maximum of 10 participants. Green Pass and identity document must be shown. The itinerary will begin at the entrance to the Tower located on the second floor of Palazzo d'Accursio, in the Sala Farnese. It is worth including this stop on a tour of Bologna. The visits are designed so as not to overlap. Participants do not cross each other and keep safe distances. Through the smartphone you can listen to an audio guide, to recognize the history of this imposing architecture in detail. Furthermore, with the visit to the Clock Tower, thanks to the collaboration of the Bologna Museums Institution, you can access the Municipal Art Collections. They can be visited on the same day or within six months from the date of purchase of the ticket.
