On 10 September 1952 it aired from the Rai headquarters in Milano, the first Italian news program. The news, for the first time, is included in the schedule and is broadcast at 21. The reports of the first historical national news concern the electoral campaign in the United States of America, the famous regatta in Venice, the funeral of the Soviet leader Stalin (who died several months earlier), the Portuguese bullfight. And, last but not least, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza. The initials are made by an orchestra of brass and strings that bring to mind the medieval figure of the herald.

The first Italian news program

Commenting on the news is the speaker Riccardo Paladini directed by the great journalist Vittorio Veltroni. Television is still an experimental form of communication and those who work there are truly an information pioneer. The first format lasts fifteen minutes. The first acronym is the “Giramondo", Basically an adaptation of the jingle from the radio show" The Three Musketeers ". As the newsroom grows and begins to have several commentators for the key topics: from politics to news, to sport and entertainment. There Rai sends the first correspondents to the most important capitals of Northern Italy.

Three editions a week

In the first television schedules, the news has a decidedly reduced space. In fact, the program includes three editions per week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). From 10 September 1952 the first Italian news broadcast on First Program which is the ancestor of Rai1; later the newsletter also lands on the second program, the current one Rai2.

The story of the news

In 1952, of course, the broadcasts were still experimental. The regularity of the broadcast arrives on January 3, 1954, when the first official newscast is also drawn up. An evening news program lasting 20 minutes. At the time, the formats that inspired us were the very popular radio newspaper, the newsreel of'Light Institute and the printed newspaper.

Rai news

Information made in the USA still did not enchant, as it does today, the creators of the schedules who aimed at essential information, polite and without emphasis. Definitely a completely different reality from today which boasts dozens of television stations with as many editions of the news. The updated news from all over the world now punctuates the television daily life of the global village and it is difficult to imagine our life without the news.
