The G20 in Bali has ended and Indonesian President Joko Widodo has passed the baton to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the final communiqué of the summit, the majority of G2O members unhesitatingly condemns the war in Ukraine.
The conclusions of the G20 in Bali
"Most members strongly condemn the war in Ukraine and underline that it is causing immense human suffering, exacerbating existing fragilities in the global economy. limiting growth, increasing inflation, disrupting supply chains, increasing energy and food insecurity and elevating risks to financial stability. There are other points of view and different assessments of the situation and the sanctions. Recognizing that the G20 is not the forum to resolve security issues, we recognize that security issues can have significant consequences for the global economy." Giorgia Meloni's satisfaction
“Italy was the protagonist of the G20, there was a lot of attention and curiosity around us, certainly also due to the fact that Italy was the only nation with a female head of government. There were 4 of 41 total participants. On the subject of equality, our country was bringing up the rear, now we are at the forefront, and it is a pleasing element”. These are some considerations by Giorgia Meloni who added: “This summit was also an opportunity to fight the 'West against the rest of the world' narrative. It's the reason why Italy has concentrated a lot on bilateral comparisons with nations with which there is less capacity to meet”.
Meloni underlined the importance of bilateral meetings "not only with the G7 countries, more used to seeing each other, but certainly also with other very important players, emerging countries and the rest of the world". “Regarding the Ukraine affair, we all realize that we need to work towards a solution to the crisis, but we cannot ignore the will of the attacked nation. We hope to find an agreement with Zelensky to get out of the conflict as soon as possible". “I confess I was not able to organize all the bilateral agreements requested with Italy. However, I believe that a decisive element is the idea of a solid, stable government which gives a long-term projection and which – concluded the premier – makes it easier imagine Italy as fundamental for relations”.
