Stefania Nogaretto, 31, from Rotonda (Potenza), is part of the team of researchers committed to developing the anti-Covid vaccine of the ReiThera. The Italian bio-technological company of Castel Romano aims to produce it by the summer, working side by side with the “Lazzaro Spallanzani” institute in Rome.

His work

Stefania Nogaretto, graduated in genetics and molecular biology in biomedical research, specialized in the "Quality & GMP Compliance" sector, to start working for multinational companies very soon. The young Lucanian researcher carries out her profession in the "Quality Assurance" Department. Here the production and experimental phases of each drug are approved and compliance with all that is prescribed by theAIFA (Italian Medicines Agency). Alongside Stefania, who started her journey with ReiThera in 2018, two other people work on the project: another coordinator, like her, and a qualified person.

"I did not expect"

Stefania Nogaretto, in a statement a few days ago, humbly admitted that she would never have thought of having to deal with something so important. “I worked for Tachipirina, Oki or other hospital drugs. Subsequently - he said - I arrived in this reality, which is a bio-tech and, therefore, completely different. Suffice it to say that the production department is also made up entirely of researchers, almost all of whom have degrees in biology, chemistry, chemistry and pharmaceutical technology and biotechnology. Here we worked exclusively for scientific trials, the team that created this company had also produced the Ebola vaccine and was growing rapidly. However, to think that, in three years, we would have been at the center of the world, I must say that I really did not expect it. But, clearly - he concluded with satisfaction - it is an experience that from a professional point of view is deeply satisfying ».

Ready by summer

The vaccine will be ready by the summer and will be called "GRAd-COV2 Covid-19", as the president of ReiThera anticipated, Antonella Folgori. Created in collaboration with the Spallanzani Institute, it was funded by the Lazio Region and the Ministry of University and Research. The drug can be given in a single dose, unlike Pfizer and Moderna, which have to be injected twice. This will cut the time in half, speeding up the immunization process. Furthermore, this vaccine remains stable at a temperature of 4 degrees centigrade. Francesco Vaia, director of Spallanzani, declared that “a production of 100 million doses of the ReiThera vaccine will make Italy self-sufficient. We are at a good point - he explained - it is likely that it will be ready in June-July ”.
