Christmas has arrived again this year and Pope Francis has not forgotten the horror of the war that is taking place in Ukraine, especially against the many innocent children who are victims of a devastating conflict.

Ukrainian children, innocent victims of a horrible war

In recent days, the Pontiff addressed a thought to Ukrainian children precisely in view of Christmas. “We think, speaking of the Child Jesus, to the many children of Ukraine who suffer, suffer so much, for this war. On this feast of God becoming a child, let us think of Ukrainian children. Most of them cannot smile and when a child loses the ability to smile, it is serious. These children carry the tragedy of that war which is so inhuman, so harsh. Let's think of the Ukrainian people this Christmas: without light, without heating, without the main things to survive, and let us pray to the Lord to bring them peace as soon as possible".

Pope Francis and his continuous appeal: "Shut up the weapons"

There are now countless times that Pope Francis has addressed the faithful and powerful of the earth, execrating the horrific war that has been going on for almost a year in Ukraine. The Holy Father, now in every public outing, he has not missed an opportunity to condemn the fratricidal violence that is claiming thousands of victims and destroying the Ukrainian nation. Pope Bergoglio invited everyone to a sober Christmas, "carrying the Ukrainians in the heart"; urging you to send something, even a small thought, to the Ukrainian people, to the children in particular, who spend Christmas in the cold, under bombs and with almost nothing to eat. The appeal has been the same for some months now: Silence the weapons!”.
