Joseph La Spina
Giuseppe La Spina, doctor of archeology, has been promoting for several years a series of initiatives for the promotion and enhancement of the historical, archaeological and artistic heritage of the territory of Gela. From 2013 he was elected Director of the Geloi Archaeological Group while in 2016 he was elected regional secretary of the Archaeological Groups of Italy, organizations with which he promotes a series of initiatives concerning the theme of cultural heritage in Sicily. Since 2014 he has produced a series of publications following excavation activities at the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, underwater excavation and recovery activities in the Bulala area, study and research activities in the Gela area. In 2014 he was appointed Director of the Mediterranean International Center of Studies, a study center that carries out research, study and excavation activities in the archaeological field and has an agreement with various European universities and bodies in charge. Since 2015 he has collaborated with various newspapers and magazines through the publication of articles on the protection and knowledge of the archaeological heritage. In 2016 he was the author of the discovery of the "Pietra Calendar" in the Cozzo Olivo district, a sundial dating back to the Bronze Age. The discovery was confirmed in March 2017 by the National Institute of Astrophysics.
