Whose turn is the choice of the Coronavirus vaccine to be administered to Italian citizens?
Vaccine-day: the anti-Covid vaccination campaign started on December 27th
December 27, 2020 is a date that will remain etched in history as "Vaccine-Day", vaccination campaign against Coronavirus which also started in Italy at the same time as the European countries. The first Italian to receive Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine, at hours 7.20 of December 27 it was Claudia Alivernini, nurse in the infectious disease ward. In addition to her, infectious disease doctors were also vaccinated Alessandra Vergoni e Alessandra D'Abramo, the virologist Mariarosa Capobianchi and the health and social worker Omar Altobelli.
The vaccinations started from north to south of our country in special vaccination points activated in the various Italian provinces. "Italy is reborn with a flower" is the slogan that accompanies the symbol (a primrose) and that will be present throughout the campaign. It was built by the architect Stefano Boeri. There will be approx 1500 gazebos in the shape of a flower, located throughout Italy, from squares, in front of hospitals and even in sports fields: here the doses of anti-Covid vaccines will be administered to Italian citizens.
Vaccine yes or no? The answers to some doubts
Vaccination is causing perplexity among Italians. And certainly clarity must be made in this regard. First of all, the vaccine is used to prevent Coronavirus in those individuals who are 16 years of age or older; in fact it is not recommended for anyone under 16. It should be emphasized that It does NOT contain the virus, but rather a definite molecule Rna messenger. Inside it are the instructions to produce a protein present on Sars-Cov-2, which is the virus responsible for the epidemic. It is administered in two injections at least 21 days apart. The protection is activated one week after the administration of the second dose. Another doubt concerns its validity. The Pfizer vaccine è 95% effective among adults over the age of 16. The protection should be between 9 and 12 months.
Vaccine and administration: who decides?
THEItalian drug agency will have the task of deciding which type of vaccine to administer to Italian citizens. Nobody will be able to choose between that of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca e Sanofi. A lot of caution is needed from this point of view, as it is necessary to evaluate the categories to which the vaccines should be assigned. Consequently, from this point of view, every single individual will not be able to have preferences on the pharmaceutical company that produces it.
Speaking of vaccines, Sanofi has postponed the results and will come after the summer. AstraZeneca-Oxford, on the other hand, appeared to be early, but had delays. The EMA (European Medicines Agency) has received your data, but it will take 3 weeks to evaluate them. Furthermore, the director general of Aifa, Nicola Magrini, also raised doubts about the adverse reactions indicated in the studies published in the Lancet. Therefore it is necessary to weigh the risks and benefits of the doses to be administered. Meanwhile, in Britain, the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine received approval; this is the second drug approved after Pfizer's.
