First prize of the Berlinale Series to “The Good Mothers” which narrates the lives of women who rebelled against the 'Ndrangheta; the new original Italian series Disney + which will debut on April 5 in Europe. Written by the screenwriter of 'Baghdad Central' Stephen Butchard, it recounts the troubled existence of three courageous women who lived within Calabrian families affiliated with gangs and who had the strength to say 'no' to the underworld.
The Good Mothers
It is a choral work that describes the odyssey of these three women who grew up within the most ferocious and powerful clans of the 'Ndrangheta. True warriors who decide to collaborate with a courageous magistrate who works to destroy the criminal power from within. These women must therefore fight against their own families for the right to survive and to build a new future for themselves and their children. The series is directed by Julian Jarrold and Elisa Amoruso and interpreted by Gaia Girace, Valentina Bellè, Barbara Chichiarelli, Simona Distefano and Micaela Ramazzotti. The producers are House Productions and Wildside.

The first jury of the Berlinale Series Award, composed of former Yes Studios head Danna Stern, 'Moonlight' star Andre' Holland and Danish screenwriter Mette Heeno, she put it. “The Good Mothers” captivated us with its multi-layered charactersi, treated with care and left to evolve before our eyes. The creators of the series have been meticulous in recreating an authentic and detailed world. Presented by an all-star cast, with performances that set our hearts racing. Gorgeous cinematography, production design, and locations contributed to the ultra-realistic feel of the series. As it should be, considering it's based on real events."
Made in collaboration with website Deadline, the award is the first of its kind for television at a major film festival. The Disney + series is interpreted by Gaia Girace (My brilliant friend) in the role of Denise Cosco, Valentina Bellè (Catch-22, I Medici) in the role of Giuseppina Pesce. Barbara Chichiarelli (Suburra – The series, Favolacce) in those of Anna Colace, Francesco Colella (ZeroZeroZero, Trust) in those of Carlo Cosco. Simona Distefano (The Traitor) in the role of Concetta Cacciola, Andrea Dodero (Do not hate) in that of Carmine. And with Micaela Ramazzotti (Mad Joy, The First Beautiful Thing) in the role of Leah Garofalo.

The series is produced by House Productions (Sherwood, The Prodigy) and Wildside (My Brilliant Friend, Anna), a Fremantle group company. To collaborate in the production of the series also the Calabria Film Commission directed by Anton Giulio Grande.
