La Archaeological walk of Rome she's ready to change her look. Soon, in fact, in the heart of the capital, a "boulevard" of green areas, cycling areas eglarge balconies overlooking the Fori area. This is the idea behind the project ranked first in the provisional ranking of the international design competition "La Nuova Passeggiata Archeologica".

Archaeological walk of Rome, from the past to the future

Inaugurated in April 1917, in the presence of the Capitoline mayor Prospero Colonna, the Archaeological Walk of Rome was created based on a project by Giacomo Boni, Rodolfo Lanciani and Nicodemo Severi. Now, after more than a century, this important area of ​​the Eternal City is preparing to become a future large pedestrian ring, inspired by the idea of ​​the Passeggiata of that minister Guido Baccelli. The plan to establish it, in the area between the Circus Maximus and the Aurelian Walls, had been approved by the city council in 1887.

New look for the Archaeological Walk of Rome

A large pedestrian ring, therefore, ready to connect the archaeological area of ​​the city with its modern part. Come on Holes al Colosseum, until the Celio, palatine, Baths of Caracalla, and then return to the Circus Maximus and the Capitoline Hill. Space for pedestrian areas, green areas, terraced and elevated paths, with new services for tourists and Romans.

The project, costs and times

For the implementation of the interventions in the area of ​​the Imperial Forums, the judging commission, chaired by the architect Joao Luis Carrillho da Graça, chose the Labics studio of Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori. Present at the unveiling were the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano and the mayor of the capital Roberto Gualtieri. The estimated cost for the work is 18,8 million euros, although at the moment the winning project still has to undergo legal checks and an examination of technical-economic feasibility. Work could begin by next September.
