Giulio Ferrarese, 16 years old, is the inventor of a new and complete language: Valenx, the idiom of books. Student of Bagno a Ripoli, on the outskirts of Florence, Giulio, who attends the third year of the Gobetti-Volta scientific high school, astronomical major, wants to be a theoretical physicist when he grows up. He combines his passion for science with that for linguistics and glossopoiesis, the art of creating artificial languages by developing their phonology, vocabulary and grammar.
A “rational” and “beautiful sounding” language
Giulio Ferrarese declared that the new language was born "for fun". To bring Valenx to life, the young man studied the main linguistic systems of the world. “It is very interesting – he explains – to see how different languages are and how they develop also on the basis of the culture of a people”. In fact, artificial languages are created for various reasons: to unite people, for linguistic experimentation, for artistic reasons or for simple entertainment. Valenx is designed to be very rational but at the same time beautiful in sound, with exotically inspired vowels and consonants. His passion for glossopoiesis led him to follow in the footsteps of the most well-known glottothetes, such as J. R. R. Tolkien (the author of “The Lord of the Rings”, who created numerous languages), the inventor of Esperanto Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof o Marc Okrand and his Klingon language for the “Star Trek” series.
A volume on sale on Amazon
The language invented by Giulio Ferrarese is complete with grammar, phonology and has a vocabulary of 3 thousand words. Collected in the volume “Valenx, a new language”, on sale on Amazon, is already in its second edition just a few weeks after publication in both paperback and kindle version. The book has a popular price "because - as the author states - I'm not interested in making money: I published it for personal satisfaction and to make my language real in this way". “Valenx – Giulio explains further – is a word composed of book, which is called vas, and language. By studying it, it is also possible to speak it."
