The choice to tell the troubled life of this artist is not accidental: Modigliani was an all-round artist, a tormented soul who lived a short but intense existence. Many loves, many passions, many excesses. Modigliani fascinated the star with his style, his culture, his charisma as well as his highly original art.
For his big comeback, Johnny wanted to direct a film focused on artist biography. Something that the star has lived and still lives, divided between the sets, the turbulence of his private life, his passion for music, his past with drugs and alcohol.

The feature film is based on a play by Dennis McIntyre, adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.
The American actor is in his second film as director after directing “The Brave” in 1997, where he starred alongside Marlow Brando.
The cast
The cast features international actors such as Al Pacino who is also one of the producers of the film together with Barry Navidi, in the role of Maurice Gangnat, famous art collector; there is also P, winner of the Cesar Award, who will take on the role of the French artist Maurice Utrillo. Among the other actors: Bruno Gouery interpreter of the TV series The White Lotus, Benjamin Lavernhe actor of Jeanne duBarry and Sally Phillips, star of the Bridget Jones film series.
Filming will continue for the next few months. The film will be presented at the next edition of Cannes Festival and distributed by The Veterans.

The Italian actor will give the face to the painter Scamarcio, already acclaimed interpreter of the film on Caravaggio, project onto the international scene thanks to his performances in international films such as Murder in Venice by Kenneth Branagh, To Rome With Love di Woody Allen, John Wick , Pasolini di Abel Ferrara.
Another Italian actress among the most talented and appreciated not only in Italy but also in the world is Luisa Ranieri, who in the film Modì plays Rosalie, the owner of an Italian café in Paris who later becomes the subject of a painting by Modigliani.
