Dan Tuesday or the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri. The date of March 25 is the one that scholars recognize as the beginning of the journey into the afterlife Divine Comedy. And it is also an opportunity to remind the whole nation and the world of Dante's genius, his immense culture and the value of his majestic literary work. Many initiatives are planned for Dan Tuesday throughout Italy.
Hell and Purgatory
Among these also the presentation of the VR version of the two chapters (“Hell" and "Purgatory") in the cities of Florence, Milan and Turin. Just today March 25, 2023 the presentation is scheduled in Florence at the Casa di Dante Museum; in Milan at the Leonardo Da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology and in Turin at the Mole Antonelliana National Museum of Cinema. In preview, therefore, the linear and VR projection of the second chapter is proposed "The Divine Comedy VR: Purgatory". Based on an idea by Adele Magnelli, the short is written and directed by Federico Basso, based on a story by Alessandro Cavallaro who oversaw the scientific supervision and selection of the verses. The short film, lasting about eight and thirty minutes, is accompanied by the voice of the actor Francesco Pannofino.
The filmed work allows the viewer to take on the role of the Supreme Poet and to cross the threshold of Purgatory to embark on his journey to the afterlife. The settings have been entirely modeled and painted in 3D. Animation of plants, fire and water were made on the basis of physical parameters, making the simulations interact up to 100 million particles. As regards the human figure, which in Purgatory becomes more central than in Hell, we opted for the integration of the actors in compositing. All shot in green screen in the scenes involving close-ups, in which the face and expressions are perceived.
The courts "Hell" and "Purgatory" will be made available from March 27 also onRai Cinema Channel VR app.
