A silver stamp for the centenary of the birth of the great director Franco Zeffirelli, the work was created by the goldsmith Gerardo Sacco. The limited series of stamps is on sale at the bookshop Foundation which takes its name from the great internationally renowned artist.

Gerardo Sacco, the goldsmith of the divas known all over the world, has worked with Maestro Zeffirelli on several occasions. A full and synergistic collaboration that went on for many years and which saw the creation of the set jewels of the opera film Othello from 1986 with Placido Domingo and Katia Ricciarelli. And, again, of the film "The young Toscanini" worn by Liz Taylor, of Hamlet from 1990 with Mel Gibson and of Don Carlos from 1992 at the Teatro alla Scala. “Franco Zeffirelli. Eternal like his art, a giant who has left an indelible mark on our country. A giant – underlines Gerardo Sacco – with whom we had the honor of collaborating on works that made Italian cinema great”.

Of the special stamp, which the ministry issued today to pay homage to the director, Maestro Gerardo Sacco has created 100 silver versions. “He was the first to engage in a conscious and direct way with the register and timbre of the complex cinematographic language". These are the words with which the great master Franco Zeffirelli defined Gerardo Sacco in an interview given to Daniela Ghi and published in 1993. Words that the master goldsmith does not forget remembering how, after that meeting, “Nothing was like before for me”. Zeffirelli has always been a great and sincere admirer of Sacco, the one who “it produced a spark of inexhaustible energy like the intense light of a sapphire”. From his hands were born the jewels worn by Elizabeth Taylor in 'The Young Toscanini' but also those worn by Placido Domingo and Katia Ricciarelli nell'Otello' and those of 'Don Carlos' at La Scala with Luciano Pavarotti.
