One hundred years ago Franco Zeffirelli, an internationally renowned director, was born. Florence, his hometown, dedicated a day of events to him to remember his genius and the great cultural legacy he left us.

Among the scheduled initiatives is the passage of the Frecce Tricolori, an "extraordinary tribute from the Air Force", explains the Zeffirelli Foundation which promotes the events together with the Municipality of Florence, with the patronage of the Mic, the Tuscany Region and Palazzo Vecchio. And with the collaboration of the Air Force, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy and the Italian Post Office. Yesterday 12 February, the day on which the director would have turned 100, the initiatives continued throughout the day and ended with the tribute concert 'To Franco Zeffirelli'. Event in collaboration with the'Philharmonic Orchestra of Calabria and the Coro Lirico Siciliano directed by Philip Arlia.

The day of celebrations began in the Porte Sante cemetery, where Zeffirelli is buried, with the blessing of Father Bernardo. Subsequently, the ceremony for the dedication of the Belvedere to the master was held, under Piazzale Michelangelo, with the mayor Dario Nardella. And from this position the passage of the Frecce Tricolori was awaited. In the afternoon, the presentation of the stamp dedicated to the director, with philatelic cancellation; followed by the inauguration of the philatelic exhibition 'Franco Zeffirelli between art, faith and politics' curated by Fabrizio Fabrini.

Tomorrow, February 14, the tribute concert by the tenor Massimo Giordano at the Zeffirelli Foundation: the proceeds will be donated tothe Meyer Pediatric.
In addition, celebrations are also planned in the major theaters of the world and on behalf of international institutions with filming of his shows and exhibitions. They will remember the great Zeffirelli La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the Arena di Verona, the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and the New National Theater in Tokyo.
