In view of the European football championships scheduled from 11 June 2021, the Italian national football team she received the first dose of vaccines. After the authorization by the Government, the green light had been announced by the FIGC and allowed the players to receive the first administration.

The Italian national team vaccinated with Moderna

They were 28 vaccinated players between Rome and Milan considering those who can be called up by technical commissioner Roberto Mancini. At Spallanzani was administered the Moderna vaccine.

The names of the players were also revealed: Lazzari, Acerbi and Immobile (Lazio), Biraghi and Castrovilli (Fiorentina), Insigne, Meret, Di Lorenzo and Politano (Naples), Spinazzola (Rome) and Scamacca (Genoa). In Milan, however, 17 footballers were vaccinated at the IRCCS Humanitas in Rozzano.

The commissioner support structure for the Covid 19 emergency, in agreement with the Ministry of Health, has published a note explaining the reasons for the vaccination. "Given the international relevance covered by the Euro 2020 Uefa Football Championship, after consulting the FIGC and agreeing with the Ministry of Health, the Commissioner support structure for the Covid 19 emergency at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers has authorized the priority vaccination of part of the delegation of the Italian national football team which will take part in the European Championship in June".

The vaccine chosen was Moderna because it requires a second dose three weeks later. In this way there will be the immunization of the team group in view of the meeting on May 24 in Sardinia.

The words of Gravina and Immobile

Gabriele Gravina, president of the FIGC, thanked the government for allowing the contest in Italy the final phase of the European Championship. He also highlighted the opportunity to vaccinate 28 players indicated by Mancini. The team group will be restricted when the official list is sent. Among the vaccinated players also Ciro Immobile, Lazio striker, who declared: “I wanted to thank on behalf of all the hospitals that allowed us to get the vaccine. We were amazed by the organization, we are happy and proud to have done this and to be an example for everyone. We must reiterate that vaccination is important and will soon come to everyone. I thank the Government and the FIGC for this opportunity ”.

The European football championships will start on 11 June with the opening match in Rome between Italy and Turkey. Before the competition, the national team will take the field for two preparation friendlies. The matches are scheduled for 28 against San Marino and 4 June against the Czech Republic.
