Examining the le one by one Aeolian islands, it is difficult to draw up a ranking in order of beauty. Each has its own charm and, if you want to spend a more or less short stay in these latitudes, you are really spoiled for choice.

L'Island of Filicudi it can be reached by boat and hydrofoil connections from Palermo and Milazzo. During the summer, the races are almost always congested. And it will be good to have a reservation if your holiday coincides with the "hottest" days, close to the holidays.

Unless there are unforeseen events, mostly related to north and north winds, the docking port will be that of Filicudi Porto. A few terraced houses scattered along the coast line welcome the newly arrived tourist. There is only the essential but nothing else is needed: a bar, a hotel, the gas station and the agency for return tickets.

The silhouette of the majestic panettone of Chief Gratian it houses what remains of a prehistoric village dating back to the Neolithic. The millstones, large oval shapes used for the processing of flour, are still clearly visible on the rocks. During the various archaeological excavations carried out on behalf of the Superintendency, some proto-Mycenaean ceramic objects were found, placed inside the huts. Testimony of the fact that this small outpost was still inhabited until 1430 BC

The descent of Pecorini Mare

The "Tips ", name with which the islanders identify the tongue of rock at the base of the promontory of Chief Gratian, offer a dream scenario for those who intend to take a bath or scuba diving or free diving.

The area to the east is subject to limitations, due to the presence of a wreck of the Greek age placed at a depth of 45 meters and a ship dating back to the fifth century BC

Entering the hairpin bends of the only asphalted road on the island of Filicudi, you arrive at the Pecorini Mare descent. A wonderful fishing village, with few houses and a very skimpy port, which hosts a buoy field for sailboats and medium-sized pleasure craft in the summer season. Here you can rent a wooden boat and go around the island, even without a guide.

Traveling along the coast towards the north-east, you will cross the most fascinating coves. There cave of the navy, the shady valleys that look towards Alicudi, the Scoglio della Fortuna surmounted by the terraces of the "siccagni". And the stupendous Secca della Canna, preceded by the outcropping rock of Montenassari. It is a truly magical place, about 4 miles from Pecorini.
