Il Cyclone Medusa has made its impact on Italy, bringing with it a series of adverse weather conditions in the next few hours. Temperatures in the south of the country remain high, while in the central-north, rising ocean and inland sea temperatures release a considerable amount of energy into the atmosphere, creating the potential for extreme weather events.

Cyclone Medusa, what's happening

In the next few hours, the bad weather will be particularly intense, mainly affecting the northern regions. The Alps, the Pre-Alps and the Northwest, in particular Liguria and northern Tuscany, will be the most affected areas. Precipitation could be abundant, with the risk of hydrogeological problems due to rainfall.

Furthermore, the strong southern winds coming from the Libeccio on the Tyrrhenian side and from the Scirocco on the Adriatic and in the south will keep temperatures high in the southern regions, where the weather will be calmer and partially sunny. However, these winds will contribute to increased wave motion, causing storm surges, especially in areas west of the Sardinia, in the Ionian area and near Salento. Furthermore, high water is expected in the Venice lagoon.

Winds, rains and storms

Cyclone Medusa, which extends over much of western and southern Europe, will deepen a low pressure trough between Ligurian Sea and Piedmont, resulting in stormy winds, heavy rain and storm surges. Sea temperatures, combined with humid southerly currents, will also contribute to severe thunderstorms.

In the next few hours, we expect torrential rain in many northern regions, with significant accumulations in some areas. In the afternoon, the bad weather will move eastward, hitting Lombardy, Triveneto, Eastern Liguria and Tuscany.

A few hours ago the violent storm

Also in other parts of Italy, intense phenomena could occur, with frequent and heavy rains. In the south of the country, southern currents will bring anomalous temperatures, with heat peaks of up to 35°C in Sicily and 33°C in Calabria. Also in the central and eastern regions, among Romagna and Marche, the heat will be influenced by the Garbino winds, dry currents descending from the Apennines. Extremely strong and dangerous winds are expected in many parts of Italy, with storm gusts especially in Liguria, the Apennines and the Alps. The situation requires maximum attention and vigilance.
