Alpine refuges

In almost all periods of the year there are many mountain enthusiasts who seek comfort in these huts or organized huts, so as to be able to spend relaxing hours at high altitude. They are characteristic houses in the mountains scattered throughout the Alps: from the Dolomites to Valtellina, from Val Gardena to the mountains of Piedmont and Val d'Aosta.

The highest refuge in Europe

Capanna Margherita is the highest refuge in Europe and is located in Italy at 4554 meters above sea level Monte Rosa. It must also be said that not all shelters have an access road where you can get there by public transport. In many cases the necessary goods are brought upstream thanks to a cableway, other times with the use of a helicopter. Another peculiarity to note and which characterizes the refuges is the good cuisine: the high-altitude gastronomy offers a menu that is nothing short of succulent and tasty. Among the classic dishes are roe deer stew, stewed chamois or venison salmì which are real gourmet dishes, highly appreciated throughout the Alps. Without forgetting the salami and mushrooms to accompany the classic polenta and mountain cheeses.
