Fights for rights or for their role in art, science, sport, music, fashion, writing and the promotion of reading. “In the publishing industry that produces children's books, the presence of women has always been the majority. Mythical figures of publishers, editors, writers and illustrators, booksellers, librarians and reading activists work at every latitude of the globe. Children's publishing has been producing books on women for young readers for a decade, putting forgotten or unknown figures back on the scene, thus remedying the forgetfulness, or removal, of adult publishing of the past” as the editors underline.

Gender equality

The exhibition is also available online on the portal Bcbf Galleries. But the initiatives for March 8 don't stop there. Also at the fair is a special area curated by PublisHer, a network created in 2019 by Bodour Al Qasimi, founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, United Arab Emirates, former president of IPA - International Publishers Association. The goal is to promote gender equality in the global publishing industry, offering professionals in the sector support in tackling the constant imbalances in access to managerial roles and discrimination in wages. Discussing and learning from each other and looking for creative and modular solutions, the professionals of PublishHer intend to promote the gender equality, putting an end to the many injustices that are still part of the creative industries around the world.
