The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, is visiting the United States of America these days. Yesterday in the morning, at Capitol Hill, he met with the leaders of the political groups in the Senate and, subsequently, with the speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
Subsequently, the Italian premier met the President of the United States of America, Joseph R. Biden jr, in the Oval Office of the White House. After the meeting, Meloni held a press conference at the headquarters of theItalian Embassy.

"Italy and the US have a strong relationship regardless of governments. I'm used to working in the interest of my nation, pursuing my ideas, this interests me”. These are some considerations by Giorgia Meloni, at the press conference at the Italian embassy a Washington. The premier explained that she has “an evident harmony with the Republican Party but – she underlined – this does not prevent me from having an excellent relationship with Biden. The theme of international politics and the relationship between governments - you continued - you take into account the national interest not the political side, otherwise it is disastrous. Politics is one thing, and I'm on my side, but in relations between governments I'm interested in working together to defend national interests and I manage to do this well. Our position is respected and listened to."
The United States and Italy “reaffirm the unshakable alliance, strategic partnership and deep friendship between the United States and Italy. The links between Italy and the United States sink their roots in history, cultural affinity and economic cooperation. They are based on values and principles shared. On democracy, freedom, respect for human rights, strengthened by the common goal of promoting the medium-high pace and security, increase prosperity and advance sustainability around the world”. This is what we read in the first point of the long joint statement by Joe Biden and Gioria Meloni released at the end of their meeting in the White House, in which it is underlined that "the ties between our peoples are at the heart of this relationship”. Both leaders stressed the important role of the Italian-American community, whose contribution makes the United States stronger and more prosperous. The Italian Prime Minister also affirmed the fundamental contribution of the Italian communities abroad.
