Il Cinema Rediscovered takes on a new form: the feminine one

- gazes of women in the history of the seventh art, from Colette to Marylin Monroe and Diane Keaton, will be explored in the 31st edition of The Retro Cinema.

Cinema Ritrovato will be held in Bologna from 24 June to 2 July. The program includes screenings from morning to late at night, in 5 cinemas and in the breathtaking stage set up in the square.

We will start with the review Colette and the cinema. It offers an unprecedented perspective on a monumental figure of French literature. Famous for her writing activity, Colette she was also a mime, actress, screenwriter. Among the films that will be screened during the retrospective, those in which he was directly involved as the author of dialogues and screenplays (such as Divine, directed by Max Ophüls in 1935, and Gigi, in the first version of 1949 directed by Jacqueline Audry). But also various films that she appreciated in her prolific activity of film criticism (As Mother of Sorrows by Abel Gance from 1917 o itto by Marie Epstein of 1934).

The journey through the Cinema Ritrovato will not stop only at Colette. It will radiate and involve the entire program of the Festival. It will be Marylin Monroe in his first major role in the new restoration of Asphalt jungle by John Huston (1950). In addition, the unforgettable protagonists of cult films of the Sixties. In the restorations of The bachelor by Mike Nichols (with the legendary Mrs. Robinson played by Anne Bancroft) to Blow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni. It gathers three icons of cinema, music and fashion: Vanessa RedgraveJane BirkinVerushka.

And then again: Joan Crowford, protagonist of Johnny Guitar by Nicholas Ray (1954), Catherine Deneuve in the ambiguous character that Louis Buñuel in Beautiful in the daytime (1967) Diane Keaton, Oscar winner in Me and Annie by Woody Allen.

Female gazes this year will come from all over the world, with the femme fatale of the show Noir in Tehran: With Lucia, a feminine fresco of one hundred years of Cuban history, e Sarraounia by African director Med Hondo, the story of a young warrior queen who tries in vain to stop the advance of French troops.
