The long journey of the training ship it includes 31 stops in 28 countries on 5 continents. Amerigo Vespucci it was launched on 22 February 1931, the same day of the death, which took place in Seville in 1512, of the Florentine navigator of the same name. The launch took place in the shipyards of Castellammare di Stabia. On July 1, 2023 you will leave from GenoVa for the second world tour in its history, after the one already completed between 2002 and 2003. On board there will be the official students of theNaval Academy of Livorno engaged in traditional education campaigns. In their absence, retained in Italy by the obligations of the academic year, the sailing ship will sail with the fixed crew on board, which will vary from a minimum of 250 up to a maximum of 400 soldiers on board. The current commander of the Amerigo Vespucci (the 124th in the history of the ship, who took office in September 2022) is the 47-year-old Captain of Vessel Luigi Romagnoli.
After the Atlantic crossing and the descent along the coasts of Brazil and Uruguay the Vespucci will make a technical stop for work in Buenos Aires lasting about 5 months. Then, for the first time in its history, it will round the southern tip of the American continent, through the Strait of Magellan or Cape Horn. Later he will enter the waters of the Pacific and continue his course towards Acapulco, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Manila, Darwin, Singapore, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, the Suez Canal, Cyprus. The training ship will return to the La Spezia base in February 2025, after having covered around 40 sea miles.
