Sardinian Cavalcade 2023 in Sassari: the great popular event is set for next June 4th. The Sardinian Cavalcade is also called the "feast of beauty"; a great secular event among many religious events that characterize the island's popular culture. It is said that its first edition was organized in 1899, on the occasion of a visit to the city by King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy.
The Sardinian Cavalcade
Most likely the festival takes up and recalls an ancient tradition of Spanish origin. A custom that has come down to the present day involving hundreds of knights and a few thousand people in traditional dress representing the costumes of the whole of Sardinia. For the next event in June, the participation of 66 folk groups, 39 associations and over two hundred musicians and dancers is expected. All together, with very elaborate costumes, they will parade through the streets of Sassari, to the delight of residents and tourists.
Sounds, colors, music, dances, jewels, refined and precious clothes. And of course the inevitable horses. In the Sardinian Cavalcade the figures represent the municipalities of the island. The historical roots of Sardinian Cavalcade they refer to the rides through the streets of the city in honor of the rulers of the past. The event was rediscovered in the early 1950s and since then it has been held every year at the end of May; this year it will exceptionally be held in June due to weather issues. Each edition is an unforgettable show that gives life to the largest secular event in Sardinia. A great spring celebration that has deserved the title of "feast of beauty", for the richness and majesty that characterize it in every aspect.
Side events
At the same time as the ride, several side events are held with the participation of artists of various kinds. StTands and stalls are instead the protagonists of the large market area which will be set up between corso Cossiga, via Enrico Costa, via Asproni, viale Mancini, corso Berlinguer, via Manno, via Mazzini and piazza d'Armi. For the 2023 edition, 230 requests have arrived from exhibitors from all over Sardinia.
