Postcard scenarios and crystal clear water that attracts tourists from all over the world. This is Lampedusa

Lampedusa is not just the drama of the landings of immigrants. This is demonstrated by the fact that every year tourists are more and more eager to reach the Sicilian island.

The bay of the Isola dei Conigli di Lampedusa is a nature reserve

Isola dei Conigli is located in the southwestern part of the island of Lampedusa, the kingdom of the herring gull, which has a population of about 100 pairs. And this is where it nests.

A particular species of lizard lives on the rock, the psammodromus algirus.

The whole bay of Isola dei Conigli is part of the Isola di Lampedusa nature reserve. It is therefore strongly protected. It can be accessed only during the day, from 8.30 to 19.30, in order to safeguard the nesting of sea turtles that occurs at night.

The area includes some important nesting sites of the Caretta caretta sea turtle.

The islands of Linosa (Spiaggia della Pozzolana di Ponente) and Lampedusa (Spiaggia di Isola dei Conigli) are the only sites in Italy where the presence of regular egg deposition by some specimens is documented and certain.

During the summer season, the beach is supervised by the staff managed by Legambiente.

Breathtaking scenery characterize Lampedusa

Breathtaking scenery and boats that "fly". And the "suspended" boats have intrigued many onlookers who want to see us clearly in the waters of the "Trabaccara" of Lampedusa.

The photos depicting the optical effect for which there appear to be suspended boats on the crystalline water have aroused the interest of the Japanese press.

To unravel the mystery and tell the story of the island from the Rising Sun, crews arrived to document, for a Japanese TV, this optical effect of “suspended” boats. And to tell about life on the island, nature, traditions and its inhabitants. This phenomenon was noticed and publicized by Claudio Baglioni, an honorary citizen and frequent visitor to the island.

Theories related to the name "Rabbit Island"

According to some scholars, the origin of the name is due to the fact that a colony of rabbits reached the islet when it was connected to the mainland. All this many years ago. Then the sand bridge disappeared, the sea waters re-emerged, the rabbits were trapped and then reproduced quickly enough to become very numerous.

It was inevitable at that point, to baptize the place with the name of "Rabbit Island".

Everything therefore remains "linked" to this strange and fascinating phenomenon that sees the island rejoin the mainland and whose scientific reasons are perhaps still unclear.

On the origins of the name “Lampedusa”, among the various theories the most fascinating is certainly the story involving the boat “Dusa”. It is thought that they were the first to land on the island, sighting it thanks to the glow emitted by several "Lampi". Hence the name “Lampedusa”. This island, due to its position in the center of the Mediterranean, has been disputed for a long time by various peoples including Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs.

After the visit of Pope Francis, Lampedusa is at the center of the spotlight of the world press. But it is not only the first frontier for those fleeing the wars and famines that afflict Africa. It is one of the destinations of excellence for world tourism.
