The victory of beauty over illegalism. This is how the belvedere built last summer to be able to admire the Scala dei Turchi from an unprecedented point of view was greeted.

The terrace wanted by Fai, Fondo Ambiente Italiano, built on the ruins of an old building built without authorization and then demolished by the owners themselves, has already captured thousands of tourists and is preparing to expand.

The mayor of Realmonte, Lillo Zicari, has already started the project that will lead to the extension of the belvedere, giving even more space to beauty, redeveloping a land that is now uncultivated and abandoned. A land in which trees will be planted and benches installed to better photograph the cliff that imposes itself between the sea and the sky.

The new area will be even larger than the first, in a project that aims to enhance its tourist use. But it doesn't stop there. The Municipality intends to make the entire area a pedestrian area, making a nearby road accessible for cars, thus leaving free space for tourists who want to admire the majestic white marl.

Last season about 3 million people visited the Scala dei Turchi. Thousands arrived in Porto Empedocle through the Valle del Templi train. A convoy that from the archaeological area, elected Italian Landscape 2017, arrives at the coast, at slow speed, to allow you to admire the beauties of Agrigento and the Vigata told in the books by Andrea Camilleri.

The project, organized by Ferrovia Kaos and the FS Foundation, aims to increase the number of trips during the summer season, to meet a growing demand. Also thanks to the new popularity achieved by the Scala dei Turchi.

Recently the town has been chosen as a symbol of Sicily by airlines and various tourist advertisements spread in European capitals. A sponsorship that has paid off, as evidenced by the growing numbers of tourists. Spot, but not only.

La Scala dei Turchi was also chosen as natural set for movies and music videos. Like "At war for love" by Pif and the clip of the song "Out of sight" by Gianna Nannini.

It also continues to fascinate. And it wants to be the protagonist of this summer, even at night, when it is illuminated with the spotlights, in the dark of the sea, showing its greatness and its majesty.

Against the backdrop of such beauty remains the controversy over the ticket for entry. The cadastral parcels on which the Scala dei Turchi in fact, they are owned by a private individual. He has decided, from this summer, to perimeter the area. And to impose the payment of a small amount to tourists in exchange for the care and protection of the place. All this through the help ofMareAmico environmental association. But the mayor of Realmonte he disagrees and has filed an appeal.

The word now passes to the Court.
