Protected by the promontory on which it stands and embraced by the surrounding valleys. Scents and colors enliven the landscape, tickling the senses of the many visitors who come here every year. "An island within an island" but also "the land of water". So Sadali was baptized. In Sardinia more authentic is a village with fairytale tones. Ready to tell us a story that will leave us delighted.

The magic of Sadali

A village whose name evokes the passage of ancient peoples but also the most typical traditions of the area. And here legends flourish. Among those who want the country to draw its origins from a shepherd to those who link its birth to the Phoenicians. Thus, evidently in a very distant time, Sadali was born. Located in the heart of the Barbagia di Seulo, 750 meters above sea level, it represents a rarity of beauty. Going up the rocky plateau, you walk along wide avenues surrounded by trees that gradually tighten up to lead us to an intimate place. As you approach the village, in fact, it is the landscapes that precede it that accentuate the pace of waiting. The scent of the Mediterranean scrub, the colors of the vegetation, the gurgling of the water.

These are the elements that characterize the scenario that leads to Sadali. An intertwining of cobbled lanes describes the historic center. Scanned by ancient shops and from church of Valentine's day, patron saint of the village. Paved streets and exposed stone facades design a place that has remained the same. A crystallized identity which has been preserved thanks to the displacement of the local population to an area further north, thus leaving the historic center unharmed and unchanged. In fact, Sadali maintains all its more traditional forms. But the locality is above all known for its "water".

Country of water

As in the best enchanted places, water cannot be missing. Waterfalls that become the protagonists of a landscape dug over time by the constant work of the streams. As evidence of the importance of the water element are the fountains that animate the historic center but above all i mills. They triumphed in the green of the valleys with their big wheel to remember an agricultural past. A campaign that in the seasons is tinged with the colors of flowers among which the pink of peonies dominates.

But it is also possible to see mills in what was once the inhabited center. So near the main church a waterfall, called San Valentino, is accompanied by the eighteenth-century mill. Used for grinding wheat, it lets us imagine a rustic reality, outlined by bucolic characters. Following the path of the water you get to the much loved ones caves. Those that make this town one of the main reasons for tourist attraction. There are about forty of them and they are scattered here and there throughout Sadali. The high concentration of springs has favored the birth of real artistic masterpieces of which the creator is water.

Among these works of nature stands out the cave of Is Janas in whose charm an ancient legend is lost. It seems that fantastic creatures lived here, half fairies and half witches, called Is Janas . One day they were surprised by a friar in the preparation of a dessert in the middle of Lent. As a punishment, the religious transformed them into rock. Thus were born stalactites and stalagmites that give the caves a magical touch. If you are curious to immerse yourself in the myth of this place, get on board the Trenino Verde. Crossing uncontaminated landscapes you can let yourself be carried away on a journey with truly suggestive tones.
