Rome: in the days of the Rome Film Fest, it is the capital of world cinema

The eleventh edition of the Rome Film Fest opened with two special guests: the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella and the great American actor Tom Hanks, accompanied by his wife, actress Rita Wilson. The couple came to Italy on purpose from Hollywood to present Hanks' new film entitled “Inferno”. They were greeted with all the honors that go to Hollywood's greatest stars.

On the opening day of the film event, Hanks received a special lifetime achievement award. “I don't look to the past and I never see my old films again. For me, artistic longevity is more important than age, ”said the actor. In addition, the actor admitted that he dreams of a film with Roberto Benigni. A great opportunity for Italy.

The world of politics

The opening night of the Rome Film Fest also saw great participation from the world of politics including Gianni Letta, former undersecretary to the Prime Minister with his wife Maddalena Marignetti; the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi; Daniela Santanchè, a well-known right-wing politician with her partner, Prince Dimitri D'Asburgo Lorena; finally the minister Dario Franceschini with his wife Michela Di Biase. For both it was an opportunity to work: Franceschini, as Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, is one of the main financiers of the film event; Di Biase is the group leader of the Democratic Party of the Municipality of Rome.

 Rome pays homage to Gian Luigi Rondi

Gian Luigi Rondi, the great film critic who died on 22 September at the age of 94, was remembered during the days of the Film Fest.
The tribute to Rondi was organized at the Auditorium Parco della Musica to celebrate one of the greatest figures of Italian cinema. Rondi was personally linked to the Roman film event: from 2008 to 2012, in fact, he was President of the Cinema per Roma Foundation, taking care of the Film Festival, which was just born at the time.
