Positano is the flagship of the Campania stretch of coast, a Unesco heritage site

It shares with Portofino the "uncomfortable" primacy of the most expensive resort in Italy. But don't worry: in Positano life is expensive only in the middle of summer.

Positano: pearl of the Amalfi Coast

At other times of the year, Positano, a Unesco heritage site, is more than accessible, provided that you follow a few small precautions.

For an economic accommodation in this stretch of Campania coast in the province of Salerno there is no shortage of bed and breakfasts and guesthouses, even with balconies overlooking the sea. The panorama, in fact, is the strong point of this charming village, made up of steep alleys and colorful houses overlooking the sea. Therefore it is a must to leave the car in the parking lots and walk around only.

Positano: the pride of the Amalfi Coast

Positano appeals to the international jet set

The climate in these remnants of spring is warm enough to allow you to experience the shores without the summer crowds.

La Big Beach and that of Fornillo are within walking distance. While in shores like Arienzo it can only be reached by sea. All three have earned the Green flag, recognition attributed to child-friendly beaches.

Positano is much loved by the international jet set. Will Smith, Paul McCartney, Beyoncè, Denzel Washington are some of the VIPs spotted in these parts. They stop with their yachts and then dine in the mod restaurants. It is not difficult to see them enjoying an ice cream in the center, entirely pedestrianized. Here it is all a succession of narrow streets, steep stairways and boutiques with the typical garments of this locality: embroidered linen shirts, strictly handcrafted.

For the souvenir photo, wait for the sunset, when the town is transformed into a suggestive out of season nativity scene.

Positano and nearby Ravello

Positano and nearby Ravello

Ravello, compared to Positano, has a reputation as a less fashionable but more exclusive location. The two cities compete for the primacy of the country with the most beautiful panorama of the Amalfi Coast.

The view from the terrace of Villa Rufolo, one of the local historic residences together with the equally wonderful one Villa Cimbrione, is as far as the eye can see.

Ravello, loved by the great musician Richard Wagner, in the summer hosts the Ravello Festival, an event of classical music, cinema and art.

Lemons: the symbolic product of Positano

Lemons

You think of a seaside place and fish-based cuisine comes to mind. In the case of Positano, however, this is not the product local symbol. Never lemons. You can find them everywhere, as a basic element of typical recipes and preparations, such as Limoncello or as simple decorations for shop windows and shops.

Wherever you go is a triumph of yellow and juicy citrus.

A tip at the table for a light and tasty dinner: the roasted mozzarella, obviously placed on lemon leaves.
