Porto dei Piccoli was born in 2005 from an idea of Gloria Camurati and from an initial presence at the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa, it has progressively extended its business to Piedmont, Tuscany, Lombardy, Emilia, Sardinia and Malta.
Il sea represents the constant feature of the recreational-pedagogical activities offered daily by the operators of the Onlus to hospitalized children and their families, to give them moments of leisure and serenity within a support path much appreciated by the doctors and nurses of the structures involved .
The Association addresses to all children who live the experience of the disease (regardless of the pathology), paying particular attention to "family" dimension , to try to restore that serenity that the disease has somehow altered.
Operators and volunteers enter the hospital wards and homes of the little ones in home therapy, to involve them through dedicated workshops with the charm of the marine world and lead them with the imagination even for just an hour away from the daily routine of the hospital.
For all the children who can also go outside, the Porto dei Piccoli organizes the “Explorations”, Fun and educational outings to discover the beauties of the area and the wonders of the world of the sea and the port.
Playful-pedagogical activities
The children are thus followed whether they are in the hospital is home, involving them with targeted recreational-pedagogical activities specifically designed to meet their needs and aspirations, through a constant presence throughout the year, including holidays. For sensitize on the subject of hospitalization and treatment, specific projects are proposed to school pupils, so that they are informed and aware of the reality that the comrades hospitalized and to have confidence and not fear of gowns, doctors and punctures.
The Porto dei Piccoli often uses theater to involve children and tell them educational and exciting stories, which communicate positive messages of hope and the importance of never being alone in facing difficulties.
The Association wants to be a help for all children in therapy and their families by establishing a support in the path against the disease e a safe haven in which to find understanding and support, also through help for all families who, from outside the region, need to be hospitalized at the Ist. G. Gaslini of Genoa and beyond.
The Porto dei Piccoli over the years has increasingly followed its vocation towards research, carrying out in collaboration with the medical staff of the structures with which it collaborates important projects related to Assisted Activity with Animals and research on invasive procedures, to monitor and evaluate those elements capable of reducing pre and post-operative stress for children.
In over 10 years through more than forty thousand hours of activity Il Porto dei Piccoli has involved with dedicated initiatives and projects more than ten thousand children in various Italian regions. The Association is in fact constantly looking for new collaborations even outside of Liguria, with the aim of networking with local realities and thus being able to bring a lot of joy and a little serenity to all children in therapy wherever they are. , even where the sea isn't there.
