For now the gyms are closed. But apparently do thephysical activity and having a trained physique helps in the prevention of Covid 19. This is supported by a study that analyzed some people who ended up in hospital and who had certain pathologies. So if you do physical activity you can reduce hospitalization and therefore play a good card to avoid getting the virus. A correct lifestyle, a healthy diet, and compliance with the rules on distancing play their part.
Physical activity and sport, what the research says
According to this recent study, people with medium or high physical capacity would therefore have less chance of ending up in hospital. The research was conducted by experts from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit (USA). The study was also published in "Mayo Clinic Proceedings". Not just people trained constantly, though. In fact, the study shows that the maximum exercise capacity determined by a stress test before SARS-CoV-2 infection is independently and inversely associated with the probability of hospitalization for COVID-19.
The research is inspired by the analysis of the data of some patients who underwent stress tests in the hospital between 2016 and 2020. They were the ones who had the worst results in the stress test in parameters such as lung capacity, fatigue resistance or in the electrocardiogram data.
The risk of contagion could decrease if you exercise
In fact, respiratory viral infections, such as that caused by Covid, cause an inflammatory response that places an important load on the cardiopulmonary system. The body reacts better if you have a greater cardiorespiratory fitness and therefore a cardiopulmonary reserve. So cardio-respiratory training plays an important role. It improves immune function, reduces low-grade inflammation and reduces the risk of respiratory infections.
So, ready to train and play sports. With the closure of the sports centers, as established in the last DPCM, there are no places where you can train. But as long as the weather conditions allow it, you can take advantage of the open air. And then there are parks, or equipped areas in contact with nature where you can train. Always respecting the rules.
Physical activity, diet and distancing
Space then for prevention. If we respect the rules on spacing and wear a mask we can avoid contracting the virus. But if we do well-structured physical activity, we help our body to have greater defenses.
Especially on the respiratory level. It is also essential to be able to make a correct diet. The Mediterranean diet is important, because it helps to live well and to eat in a balanced way. While waiting for the vaccine and treatment, then it's up to each of us to do our part. Preparing our body, training it, having a correct lifestyle also plays a fundamental role in preventing other diseases. With the pandemic underway, everyone is doing their part to defeat the virus.
