The migrant Italian is certainly not a person who is intimidated by distances. Just think ofArgentina and its 900 thousand residents from the Belpaese. Then there is another place, much further away, which for decades has fascinated the Italic people: theAustralia. Here the Italian community is very numerous in various cities, and year after year it is growing more and more. Not only in the classics Sidney e Melbourne, but also in Western Australia, or a Perth.

Beautiful and secluded: Perth

Founded in 1829, the city of Perth does not have a particularly ancient history. Until the end of the nineteenth century, England sent its convicts here to make up for the lack of manpower. A large part of the city center was in fact built thanks to the work of the condemned who at the time represented a substantial portion of the population. At the end of the nineteenth century the turning point: the discovery of various gold mines which opened up a whole new scenario for the city. This allowed Perth to develop in tandem with the other large Australian centers on the East coast.

But what makes this city so special? Surely its location, which makes Perth one of the most isolated towns in the world. While Eastern Australia has several large metropolises relatively close together, the situation is quite different here. To the east there are thousands of kilometers of desert and natural parks, to the west the ocean, while to the north and south it is easier to come across a kangaroo than another human being. Economy, society and more are therefore concentrated in Perth, placing it in fourth place on the list of major Australian cities. Many foreigners, for this reason, have chosen it over time as a destination to build a new life. And among the largest communities there is, coincidentally, the Italian one that counts nearly 20 thousand people.

Italians in Perth

In recent years, one of the most popular destinations for Italians who emigrate to Australia is the city of Perth. The reasons are various, but there are undoubtedly the basis job opportunities. In fact, it is not difficult to find a good job here, thanks above all to an economy recovering after the crisis of the late 80s. The sectors are varied and range from Catering (every year more and more clubs are opened) up to that mining (remember the mines discovered in the late nineteenth century?). It is also developing the financial sector, thus offering great possibilities for employment from office.

The Italians in Perth are mainly concentrated in the district of Fremantle. It is an important port city that makes tourism its winning weapon. It is not difficult to come across restaurants or other businesses run by Italians, who have been literally colonizing this district for years. Unlike the center of Perth, here the living costs are much lower and it is much easier to build a future. The influence of our culture is quite palpable, as evidenced by the typical dishes that are almost all of Italian origin. Furthermore, the architecture is clearly European in style, with some typical Mediterranean elements.

A united community

But is the Italian community united in Perth? Obviously yes, as demonstrated by the many testimonies of Italians who have just emigrated to Australia. In the last decade, associations have come to life, Internet sites, Facebook pages  and blogs to help newcomers. A real network where you can find advice and support: from the best places to eat to instructions for obtaining the visa that best suits our needs. An ever-expanding network, given the ever-increasing number of Italians who move to Perth. Suffice it to say that we have more than doubled in the last 10 years and, according to estimates, we will grow even more. Because the Italian migrant knows no limits and fears, not even in the face of the most isolated city in the world.
