Il Most Beautiful Village in Italy that we admire this Saturday is Pacentro, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo.
The wonder of this village is immediately evident. The panoramic view of the old town from Muscarella, or the aerial view from the “Agnese curve”, from where it seems to unwind like a stone snake that goes into the woods, introduce you to another dimension. It's like walking through a long-downed door. Close your eyes and open them on a forest of towers, even if they are in ruins or severed.
The mountains surround Pacentro and shelter it from the fury of the winds. The woods oxygenate the air and the waters gush fresh from the numerous springs of the Maiella.
To the west, the sky over Pacentro widens and the view sweeps across the Peligna Valley. On the top of the hill stands the Caldora Castle, which in its original structure dates back to the XNUMXth century.
Pacentro, return to the Middle Ages...
