Oriana Fallaci. Italian writer, journalist, activist. She participated in the Italian Resistance at a very young age.

Oriana Fallaci was the first Italian woman to go to the front as a special correspondent. But of his personal life, he has not spoken to me. Thanks to book, released in these days and entitled "Only I can write my story”, Many exciting chapters emerge. And Oriana herself speaks of her greatest love.

A real autobiography and a great love

It is a'anthology of writings never published so far and now in bookstores thanks to the publisher Rizzoli and Oriana Fallaci's nephew, Edward Perazzi, the only heir of the great writer and journalist who died in 2006 at the age of seventy-seven.

These are pages in which Oriana Fallaci talks about her life and which, put together, become a real autobiography. The most intense chapters are those in which he recounts the great love of his life: the Greek revolutionary Alexandros Panagulis known as “Alekos”, a hero of the resistance against the dictatorship exercised in Greece by the military, between 1967 and 1974.

Panagulis was arrested in 1968 and spent five years in prison in which he suffered terrible torture.

And, in 1973, in the aftermath of his liberation, love was born between the revolutionary and Oriana Fallaci: a tragically broken passion, three years later, when Panagulis died in a car accident on his way from Athens to Glyfada, his home town. A mystery immediately arose: was it a real accident or had Panagulis been killed? The truth was never known but Fallaci was always convinced that Panagulis had been killed.

An overwhelming and stormy love

Their first meeting took place in Athens on 23 August 1973 during an interview that Fallaci made to "Alekos" and which turned out to be a real love at first sight. An overwhelming love: she was 44 and he 34.

In the book entitled "Only I can write my story”, Oriana Fallaci tells the moving story she made of that meeting. “When he opened the door for me, Alekos treated me with surprising familiarity. Meeting for us was not a knowing each other: it was a recognizing us. And love exploded between us with the explosive force of things that cannot be avoided ”.

Oriana Fallaci dedicated her most famous book entitled "A man" to his great love. It is a 1979 novel-truth. A novel in which he told the story of Alekos Panagulis, who died in a car accident in 1976 at the age of 37. An incident considered by the writer to be a "disguised" murder. “Everyone was looking at me on the day of the funeral, surprised not to see me cry. But when I wrote "A man", then, I cried. I was crying so much that I didn't even see the words I was typing. In his grave there are only the bones. His breath is inside me ”.

A love story that leaves us speechless. Like the story of this Italian woman who gave pride to our country.
