The Costa degli Dei is also known as Costa Bella

This stretch of Calabrian coast, in terms of waters and beaches, has nothing to envy to the Caribbean. And the Coast of the Gods, in the province of Vibo Valencia, which overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and extends for about fifty km.

Also called Costa Bella, is a succession of white sandy beaches, rocks overlooking the sea, promontories and coves, some reachable only by boat.

From here you can see the Aeolian Islands

Tropea, which according to legend was founded by Hercules, is the most famous place.
From Tropea, on clear days, you can see the Aeolian Islands

Tropea, which according to legend was founded by Hercules, is the most famous place. It is divided into the upper part, where most of the residents live, and into the lower part "the Navy", close to the sea and the marina.

In the historic center, the ancient churches stand out, such as the Norman Cathedral e Santa Maria della Neve and the many noble palaces.

Another much appreciated by bathers is that of Capo Vaticano, a locality in the municipality of Ricadi which is about 13 km from Tropea and which separates the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia from that of Gioia Tauro. It was once a quiet fishing village, then the tourist boom came. The rich depths make it an ideal stop for scuba diving enthusiasts. Also from here, with the lighthouse behind you and on days when the sky is clear, with a little luck you can even see the Aeolian Islands and the Etna volcano.

Continuing the journey south, I remember two other interesting places. joppolo, with the large pebble beach and the old historic center. AND Nicotera Marina, full of organized accommodation facilities.

On the Shrine of the Hermits

Sanctuary founded in the Middle Ages, the Church of Santa Maria dell'Isola stands on a promontory in front of Tropea. And it is considered one of the symbols of the Calabrian locality. Once this large rock was detached from the mainland and, precisely because of its isolation, it was a favorite place for hermits.

After the violent earthquake of 1783 and the subsequent tidal wave it approached the coast. Surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, it offers a splendid view of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
