The city of Biella is hosting the 39th congress of the World Federation of Master Tailors, an appointment which from 31 July to 5 August will see over 270 tailors representing 34 nations arrive in our country. The Italian school has always been considered one of the most influential and admired, thanks to our DNA of craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and taste. The locution 'made in Italy' it was born right from the 'made-to-measure' and then moved on to other contiguous sectors such as fashion.
Biella, capital of world tailoring
The congress will address many topics: first of all there will be a discussion between tailors from all continents on their vision of the sartorial world, on the future of tailoring and on the World Federation of Master Tailors. We will then talk about the different interpretation of the art of tailoring, the training of young tailors, and the sustainability of tailoring. The event will be enlivened by debates, fashion shows, competitions: on 3 August within the fashion show of the Accademia Nazionale dei Sartori, the Premio Forbici d'Oro will be awarded, the most important Sartorial Competition born in 1951 and established by Mino Maestrelli to reward the master tailors who best interpreted the tailoring profession for technical competence, stylistic sensitivity and manual skills.
The national competition Golden Scissors after having seen some protagonists of national and international tailoring as winners, it aims to continue to be a certificate of absolute excellence in the sector. The Golden Scissors Award is held every two years. Another objective of the congress is also the enhancement of the territory in which it will take place, and to make known an important part of our cultural heritage: during the week of the works, in fact, there will be the possibility to visit the beauties of Piedmont, with special organized tours. Some of the destinations: Turin, Stresa and the Borromean Islands, the palace of Venaria Reale, Biella and Oropa.
World Federation of Master Tailors
Partners of the 39th congress of the World Federation of Master Tailors are some of the most important Italian textile companies and beyond: Cerruti brothers wool mill 1881, Drago, Piacenza, Reda, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Zegna. And also Stylbiella, Albini, the industry association Ideabiella, Confartigianato, CNA and the Biellese Industrial Union. The event received the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Piedmont Region and the city of Biella, a UNESCO creative city. Countries that will participate: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong.
