The initiative, supported and promoted by the Sicilian region, the Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, is created in collaboration with the FS Foundation. The historic trains will allow tourists to admire suggestive landscapes and visit the most beautiful and beloved cities of the island.

The initiative was also very successful in other parts of Italy: the FS Foundation works to enhance and deliver intact to future generations the enormous historical heritage. The aim is to demonstrate the importance of trains as a symbol of progress and national unity and to stimulate their recovery in terms of tourism, to the benefit of Italian communities and territories.

The itineraries

The historic train program in Sicily includes 51 appointments on the most beautiful and panoramic railway lines of the island and will start Saturday August 12 to conclude Sunday December 10. The cities involved are: Palermo, Syracuse, Agrigento, Messina, Caltanissetta, Trapani, Cefalù, Modica, Ragusa, Tusa, Porto Empedocle, Giarre, Castelvetrano.

Each historic train itinerary is associated with visits and excursions organized by the Tourism, Sport and Entertainment Department of the Sicilian Region. There will also be a trunk capable of carrying up to 50 bikes per route, alongside the Centoporte carriages from the 30s and Corbellini.
