In recent days he was presented to Navegantes (Brazil) the new multipurpose center Auditorium ship door. An Italian signed project Francis Schiavello, a young architect from Soriano Calabro, a small town in the province of Vibo Valentia. The building presents itself as an innovative and avant-garde structure, and has already captured the attention of experts in the sector.
Portonave Auditorium: between present and future
An elongated C-shaped structure that covers about 6000 square meters: this is the Portonave Auditorium. The architect Francesco Schiavello wanted to give life to something futuristic, elegant and above all expressive. And judging by the result, he seems to have succeeded. However, the merits are not only yours, but also that of colleagues Marina Canhadas e Sabina Bottarelli, known in Italy during their studies. The three won a design competition announced by the Ship door way back in 2008. There was a need for a structure that could accommodate various services for the workers of the nearby port. Services such as a canteen, emergency room, changing rooms and recreation centers. It was also necessary to equip the building with a space for events and congresses. In short, an important project that, in the long run, would also have had another objective: to relaunch the city's economy.
Without being discouraged by the possible difficulties, Francesco immediately set to work together with his colleagues. Once finished, the project was presented to the commission which kicked off its implementation. However, several years have passed from the moment of approval to its inauguration. This is due to various bureaucratic problems. The actual work, on the other hand, was completed in just 14 months. Stuff that is hardly possible to see in Italy.
From Calabria to Brazil: Francesco Schiavello
Trained at La Villette University in Paris, Francesco Schiavello represents excellence in the world of design and architecture. In 2016 together with Merilia Ciconte e Saint Prestanicola he made in his city (Soriano Calabro) the Earthquake Museum. A place where the most significant seismic phenomena are told, not only in Calabria, but in the entire peninsula. All narrated from several perspectives such as the historical, architectural and anthropological one. Also in 2016 he presented his personal handcrafted works in Milan: jewels created with the prickly pear plant and beehives. Atypical materials, used precisely to show the public the possibility of making valuables with anything.
