The Italian cyclist, Antonella Gentile, will be cycling for over 3.500 km for this good cause
Backpack on your shoulder. Indeed, two bags to attach next to the wheels, a dozen t-shirts, raincoat, two pairs of shoes, mineral salts to avoid collapsing on the first ascent, overalls, gloves, helmet and… in the saddle! Antonella Gentile, 33, has been on the road for about 70 days. His goal to be achieved will be the Northern Norway, the highest point in Europe that can be reached on the mainland after passing through Austria, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.
From Italy to Norway to reduce the distance between Europe and Africa
Born in Barletta, in Puglia, Antonella Gentile she is a graduate in Oriental Languages and rides for charity.
From Italy to Norway to reduce the distance between Europe and Africa. It's the slogan sewn on her by amref, the largest humanitarian organization on the African continent, engaged in a water project in the rural areas of Kitui and Siaya, Kenya. These are villages where people are forced to walk miles to look for water. And building wells is absolutely necessary.
Antonella is testimonial of this initiative. It has many kilometers to go. In all, more than 3.500. And maybe over time they will also increase. It does not have a set route. It decides how much and how to pedal from time to time. And when, the Apulian cyclist tries to be hosted.
Hospitality is one of the keys to Antonella Gentile's journey
The Apulian cyclist has rarely slept in the campsite. When he can, he tries to be hosted. It has almost always managed to exploit the so-called couchsurfing, term that in Italian means "Surfing on the sofas". A free hospitality exchange and social networking service born in California in 2004.
Antonella's best friend on this trip is hers bicycle. Red and gray, so far it has always proved to be up to it. Never a puncture or damage. And every day, they travel together, on average 50 km a day.
In just under two weeks, the cyclist should be able to cross all of Germany and arrive in Denmark, where the cold could slow down the pace.
