The exhibition 'Etruscans. Lords of ancient Italy' (Etruscans. Lords of ancient Italy), conceived and curated by the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna with the organization of MondoMostre it is underway at the Wuzhong Museum in Suzhou in China. Given the success achieved so far, the exhibition has been extended until 29 January.
Etruscans. Lords of ancient Italy
The Chinese museum requested and obtained the possibility of extending the opening period of the exhibition project by two months, initially scheduled from 30 August to 30 November. This, to allow a wider audience to approach and learn about one of the most important civilizations of ancient Italy, the Etruscan one. The extension of the exhibition coincides with the spring festival period, one of the most deeply felt traditional festivities which celebrates the beginning of the new year according to the Chinese calendar.
The initiative is included in the official program of theItaly-China Year of Culture and Tourism 2022 with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Shanghai and the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai. This is the first international exhibition to be presented after the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Wuzhong Museum in Suzhou. An area located in the west of Shanghai, Jiangsu province. Known tourist destination because of its majestic gardens and its ancient canals known as one of the most beautiful “Venices of the East".
Five thematic sections
The story unfolds through five thematic sections with 332 objects of high historical and artistic value that document the daily life of the Etruscans. The finds come from two of the most important Italian Etruscan collections, those of the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna and National archeologic museum di Naples. The exhibition is arousing a lot of interest from the Chinese public, from 25 August to 7 December there were over 100 visitors. This is also thanks to the strategy implemented by the Wuzhong Museum with promotional and educational activities for different age groups. Including backstage videos of the set-up phases, video interviews with curators, academic lectures, lectures, courses, research studies, film screenings and evening events.
