Comunicato stampa

1600 years of history condensed into a single but unmistakable date. In fact, March 25, 421 is universally recognized as the day of foundation of the city of Venice, as evidenced by the manuscript source of Chronicon Altinate and, in more recent times, Marin Sanudo who, describing the great Rialto fire of 1514, wrote in his diaries: "Solum remained standing the church of San Giacomo di Rialto, which was the first church built in Venetia of 421 on 25 March". If, therefore, the legend traces the laying of the first stone of the church of San Giacomo di Rialto (San Giacometto) back to this iconic date, March 25, 2021 could only be the ideal opportunity to celebrate 1600 years with the whole world ab urbe seasoned through an intense program of official events and a series of events such as exhibitions, museum tours, conferences and seminars, promoted by organizations, institutions and associations both nationally and globally.

In this way Venice, world capital of culture and symbol of the Serenissima, will be celebrated by all in its dimension of city "of land and water". However, if the birthday of Venice falls on March 25, 2021, the celebrations will in fact last for a whole calendar year, until March 25, 2022. It therefore promises to be a rich year both from a celebratory and socio-cultural point of view, a unique and unmissable year also for the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium, by now a historical supporter of the city, confirmed by the Municipality of Venice and the "Official Committee 1600 years of the Venice Foundation" as the official partner of the anniversary, and a reference bubble for all the events connected to the first 1600 years of the city's history.

From the Boat Show to the Redentore, passing through the Historical Regatta and the Film Festival, without forgetting the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Prosecco DOC Consortium will therefore always be present to cheer every event with its unmistakable blend of grapes, for an unprecedented international showcase. Furthermore, with the aim of making this important anniversary and the individual associated events even more unforgettable, for the occasion, the Consortium produced two special edition bottles of Prosecco DOC and Prosecco DOC Rosé. "These are two bottles designed specifically for the 1600 years of Venice, a birthday also celebrated by a special logo inserted in a label that recalls the Venice quadrilobo and which is characterized by both modern elements and classic iconography, demonstrating a international appeal that has long distinguished the close relationship between Prosecco DOC and the lagoon city - he declares Stefano Zanette, President of the Protection Consortium - As a Consortium, on the other hand, we have shown that we have always been very close to the city, not only in joys but also in the most difficult moments ».

These, however, are the words of Luca Giavi, General Manager of the Prosecco DOC Protection Consortium: «For three years the Prosecco DOC has been the official sparkling wine of the city of Venice and, therefore, on a historical and special occasion like the 1600th anniversary of its foundation, we could not fail to be there. We are therefore really pleased and honored to be able to guarantee, to citizens and tourists, important moments of conviviality thanks to the presence of our wines at the major events already scheduled for this long year of celebrations. In this unforgettable experience we then wanted the Venice Wine Consortium who, taking up the graphics for the labels designed by our Consortium for the special editions of Prosecco DOC and Prosecco DOC Rosé, created dedicated bottles of Merlot for "Venice 1600".

A symbolic union, that of the two Consortia, which once again underlines the strong link between the production area of Prosecco DOC and the magic of Venetian streets and canals, in the everlasting memory of the Serenissima ».
