The tractor protest spreads. Farmers are complaining that the European Commission will present a proposal on Thursday for a new exemption from EU rules aimed at farmers on minimum land quotas to be kept at rest to have access to aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This was announced by a spokesperson for the EU executive.

This new exemption on fallow land to access CAP funds has created much controversy and protests throughout Europe and today other Italian farmers also took to the streets. The Spanish farmers they joined the European protest, while in Belgium they intend to block for 36 hours the access roads to the container port of Zeebrugge, on the North Sea. In Germany farmers blocked access to the Jade-Weser-Port, a container port near the city of Wilhelmshaven, with around 40 tractors. In the port of Bremerhaven, a "gathering" of farmers on a crucial road axis caused a "significant slowdown" in traffic.

In France, thousands of farmers, with tractors and other means of transport, headed towards the capital starting from different regions with the declared aim of closing access to Paris. Macron said: 'It's simplistic to blame everything on Europe'.

The demonstrations took place today, Tuesday 30 January, in various Italian cities. Over 250 tractors with more than 400 farmers coming in particular from the provinces of Milano, Pavia and Lodi, met this morning. In Ravenna and Foggia the tractors invaded the city, a Lecce Various roads leading to the Salento capital were blocked. Thousands of tractors marched throughout Italy.
