In these holidays, as we know, there are many binges that await us. Warm family reunions are always accompanied by nice binges in which various dishes intertwine harmoniously. However, these large meals can lead to heartburn and/or stomach discomfort. So, it's better to rely on foods that promote recovery after binges.

What are the foods to avoid to rest the stomach

There is a list of foods that do not help the stomach to rest after binges and which, therefore, would be better avoided. Here are the 3 foods to absolutely avoid in case of post-binge stomach discomfort:

  • Dairy Products:  a dinner that was thought to be “light” based on milk and low-sugar biscuits, for example, is not at all light on the stomach. In fact, foods high in lactose they are hardly digestible.
  • Carbonated drinks: Many such drinks are also acid and can alter the acidity of the gastrointestinal tract leading to reflux, heartburn and poor digestion.
  • Caffeine: as well as carbonated drinks, caffeine can also cause acidity and does not help the normal work of the stomach in digestion.

Other foods to avoid

But there are also other foods that should be avoided. This is the case, for example, of citrus fruits, tomatoes and chilli peppers: all acidic foods that do not aid digestion, fatty foods (such as cured meats) and spicy ones. It is also superfluous to remember that alcohol is not good for you. Alcohol can irritate the stomach. Even pre-packaged foods are not advisable in these cases: they are rich in fat, lactose, spices, salt.

What foods do you prefer?

Is there any food that should be favored to recover from post-binge stomach pain? In addition to the classic light broth, bread, boiled rice, chicken or turkey on the grill, bananas, eggs, cooked carrots, boiled potatoes are fine. Obviously, a great ally of digestion is also water, as doctors recommend drinking at least 2 liters a day.
