A series of events throughout 2023, and the conferral of posthumous honorary citizenship, to celebrate Italo Calvino, one of the greatest Italian and European writers and thinkers of the Nine hundred, on the centenary of his birth (October 15, 1923). These are the events announced by the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia (Grosseto) to celebrate an intellectual purpose and a great author.

The mayor Elena Nappi presented the celebratory initiatives, together with, among others, the president of the Agimus association Gloria Mazzi. “We have defined a program of appointments – explains Nappi – with the precise aim of reminding Castiglionesi and guests that our country had been chosen by Calvino as a place of his heart. for this reason the junta decided to grant citizenship given his important literary past and his willingness to rest forever in our cemetery. What for everyone is one of the greatest storytellers and prose writers of the twentieth century, for Castiglione della Pescaia is an illustrious citizen who lived among the people of Castiglione for most of his life. We want to pay homage to him through meetings, theatrical performances, exhibitions in which still unknown aspects of this writer will be revealed who bequeathed us one of the most appreciated literatures of the third millennium".
Nappi recalls that “the pine forest of Roccamare, by the writer's own admission in many interviews, really influenced his way of thinking, investing all his literary production. And, precisely on the occasion of this important anniversary, we will be able to travel to discover the roots of the man of narrative who has become history also thanks to the landscape heritage offered as a muse by Castiglione della Pescaia“. Three fixed monthly meetings will be held in the library dedicated to him to present his novels and Italian fairy tales through theatrical performances. Alongside these appointments, every month there will be events that will also involve the protagonists of the Castiglione tourist program such as the gray cat jazz festival, the places of the time and the music of the sea.
