Cellino has resigned as president of Brescia. This is his open letter published through the pages of the official website of Swallows:
"I hereby resign with immediate effect my resignation as Chairman of the Company and as a member of the Board of Directors, a resignation already announced and temporarily suspended in the board of directors of October 24, 2022. The reasons for the decision, which I assumed after a deep inner anguish they are both of a personal nature and related to the concern to ensure the most efficient management of the Company so that it can achieve the best sporting results.
On a personal level, the criminal proceeding, which has involved me and which has now lasted for two years, in the context of which the seizure order was issued which effectively involves Brescia Calcio, has by now worn away my serenity, which is necessary for the purposes of managing a complex company such as a football team.
As regards, then, the interests of the team, the difficulty on a personal level to which I mentioned above must be added that the existence of the kidnapping introduces a series of constraints that do not reconcile with the flexibility and speed of decisions that a management efficiency of a football club requires. After all, I'm sure the team is stronger than you think and the results not achieved lately are the offspring of my state of mind which reflects on the team and I'm not saying this as a fan, but because of my many years of experience in football.
I am convinced that with my resignation the Company will be in a position to identify, in agreement with the judicial bodies, a person who, with greater serenity, will be able to lead Brescia Calcio to the results that the passion of the fans deserves.
This is why I add to my resignation the best wishes in sport, which I express with all my heart.
I thank the members of the Board of Directors and of the Board of Statutory Auditors for their valuable collaboration over the years.
I thank all the employees, the technical staff and the members of the team for the passion with which they have always worked.
Finally, a special thanks to the fans, whose support for the team has never wavered.
