The phenomenon of ghost boys between 15 and 29 years. It is young  who forgo education and training by staying indoors in their bedrooms.

They are not working, studying or completing a training period. Are the NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), young people between 15 and 29 years of age are the clearest sign of the economic crisis.

In 2015 alone, there were 40 million in OECD countries.

How is Italy positioned in this new generation of young people?

THEItaly è black shirt in this sad ranking. In our country, according to the data, over a third of young between 20 and 24 years of age he does not work or study. Between 2005 and 2015 their percentage increased by ten points, much more than in other countries. Certainly the increase is due to the economic crisis which resulted in a 12% drop in the youth employment rate. But the OECD notes that other countries, such as Greece and Spain, have seen a similar or greater decrease in the employment rate without recording such a dramatic increase in NEET.

But who are these guys really? What do they do and what they don't do?

They can be called a new immobile army of new illiterates working. Young people who have missed the train of education, who slide towards the borders of the employment market, which risk never contributing to the social security system. But above all, they have lost the enthusiasm to live and build a future, they have left their trust behind and are only trying to survive, rather than live.

Often closed in their bedrooms, in front of the PC, they participate little in family life and do not even have much interest in food, friends, social life.

What does Istat tell us?

L'Istat has also tried to offer a numerical survey of the phenomenon, together with Ministry of Labour, trying to give a face and a provenance to these two million Neet, neither workers nor students. Starting from gender and area of residence: more than half, 56,5 percent is made up of women living in the South. Naples, Catania, Brindisi, Palermo are the provinces that wear the black jersey. These women have a low to medium level of education, middle school or at most a high school diploma.

Most of these young people have also stopped looking for work: 57,7 percent of males Italian Neets is inactive. If we look at the percentages of women, the situation appears even more dramatic. For every 72 girls, 80 have resigned themselves to being unemployed and not entering the job market. Also in this case the worst performances are recorded in the South, with peaks exceeding XNUMX per cent in Campania.

Proving that the NEETs is a structural problem of inactive people above the national average, Trentino Alto Adige is registered, where the ceiling of 60 percent is breached against 39 percent of those who do not resign themselves to unemployment.
