close-up of Andrea

My name is Andrea. I am thirty-four years old and I am president of the Misericordia di Adrano, near Catania. An association of volunteers that deals with social and health services.

We drive ambulances, self-medications, vehicles for the disabled. In these days that no one expected we share emergency tasks. We bring to those in need (and there are many) the foodstuffs collected from the collections of residents and supermarkets in my city. And then we distribute the shopping vouchers created by the Region funds.

I am happy with what I do. It gives a sense of fulfillment to feel that you are so useful by doing something that may seem like little. Today we make deliveries. Are we delivery boys? Possible. But it's not every day to deliver small bites of serenity to people's homes. Of hope.

Before this 2020, the moments that most marked my XNUMX years were when I completed my studies and graduated, and then when I became an uncle. I always carry them with me. All the more so in this moment when what comes next seems so uncertain.

The truth is that about tomorrow, about what will affect us, I know little and nothing. But I do know a few things about today.

For example, I realized that today, no matter how brave you think you are, there are fears that you cannot dispel them. The fear of enemies you don't know how to see, above all.

But I also know that today I don't want to stop. The responsibilities I feel towards my volunteers and towards all the young people involved in my association is fuel for me. I move, I do not stop, and in doing so I give as much as I can to the families that have been most affected by this pandemic and its economic effects. For them and thanks to my boys, I feel that my today is the best way I can to welcome tomorrow.

To me, to my family, to everyone, I wish to win this battle and to return to enjoy freedom, the one made up of simple gestures and those little moments of happiness that we only happen to notice when they take them away from us.
