Today, November 13th, we celebrate the World Kindness Day, a special occasion dedicated to promoting and celebrating one of the fundamental elements of common life: kindness. What does kindness actually mean? In addition to embodying the concepts of politeness, courtesy and kindness, kindness is configured as a behavior imbued with respect, gratitude and benevolence. It manifests itself through acts of generosity, consideration, assistance and concern authentic for the well-being of others.

World Kindness Day

This noble sentiment is so extraordinary that it even has a World Kindness Day, supported by an international movement and a passionate Italian movement that promotes and defends its principles. In Italy, the event has been celebrated every year since 2000. Its global genesis, however, dates back to 1998, when the "World Kindness Movement", a coalition of non-governmental organizations, launched the initiative during a international conference held in Tokyo.

World Kindness Day is an opportunity to highlight the good deeds done in the community. A day to focus attention on potere positiveo that kindness can generate and on the common thread that binds us all. In various countries, including Canada, Australia, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, India and of course Italy, the day is celebrated with special events, mass hugs, concerts, volunteer actions and more.

Italian Kindness Movement

In Italy, the Italian Kindness Movement (Mig) recently established the pioneering Italian Kindness and Behavior Observatory. This independent body will be dedicated to multidisciplinary research projects aimed at exploring the social, environmental and economic value of kindness. Its first investigation will focus on analyzing how kindness can influence increases in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), examining how a kind environment can contribute to a country's prosperity. At the same time, the center will conduct an in-depth study on the prison system, focusing specifically on the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners into society.

President Natalia Re emphasizes that kindness should not be considered only as an accessory element in relationships, but as a fundamental right. Kindness, in fact, represents the basis of common life, respect for others, for differences and for the laws of the state. It is a virtuous tool that helps us live and interact with others in a harmonious way.
