Today, Friday 17 March 2023, is the 162nd anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Therefore, it is celebrated National Unity Day Constitution, of the anthem and the flag. A day that should be engraved in the memory and in the hearts of all Italians and which will be celebrated with due honors in Piazza del Quirinale. The solemn changing of the guard is scheduled with the deployment and parade of the Corazzieri Regiment and Fanfare of the IV Carabinieri Regiment on horseback who, during the solemn change, will also perform various songs.
The unification of Italy, values to be celebrated in schools
In a recent note, the Ministry of Education recalls that the law of 23 November 2012, n. 222 recognizes 17 March, the date of the proclamation of the unification of Italy in Turin in 1861, as "National Unity, Constitution, Anthem and Flag Day". The same law establishes that in schools of all types and levels "didactic courses, initiatives and celebratory meetings are organized aimed at informing and arousing reflection on the events and on the meaning of the resurrection.
As well as on the events that led to national unity, to the choice of the anthem of Mameli and the national flag and to the approval of the Constitution, also in the light of the evolution of European history”. “The school - writes the Ministry of Education and Merit - represents, before any other institution, the place appointed to deepen and reflect on the values linked to national unity and the Constitution. School institutions will also be able to evaluate the involvement of families, local authorities and territorial associations in public study days, conferences and debates".
