Another day full of emotions in Tokyo 2020. Our athletes continue their march, collecting medals. Here is what happened in the Italian night (7 hours time zone with Japan), which saw the Italian flag as protagonist.
Tokyo 2020, the medals of Thursday 29
We start with the bronze of men's rowing. Stefano Oppo and Pietro Ruta got on the podium as a pair of lightweights. Before them Germany (silver) and Ireland (gold). A specialty that returns to see us rewarded after 21 years. Triumph for women's rowing. Valentina Rodini and Federica Cesarini took gold as a lightweight pair, ahead of France (silver) and Holland (bronze). It is a historic victory: it is the first ever medal in women's rowing for Italy.
Gregorio Paltrinieri confirms himself as a sacred swimming monster. In the 800 meters he conquered the silver medal, which is very close to gold for him, considering the forced interruption of his preparation (at the decisive moment) due to mononucleosis. Condition anything but the best and "madness" in the aggressive approach to the race, led with a great advantage up to the last 200 meters. An unexpected silver that highlights its absolute qualities. Gold for the American Finke and bronze for the Ukrainian Romanchuk.
The other disciplines
Third victory for the girls of volleyball. The national team has full points in Group B after beating Argentina 3-0. The last two days are missing, with a challenge against China on Saturday at 14.45 pm and against the United States on Monday at 4.05 am.
A bitter day for women's foil in teams. The success against Hungary pushed the national team into the medal zone, but the group had to surrender to France. A dream interrupted after an advantage of 11 hits at the end of the fourth match. The opponents, however, believed in it and in a daring way they were able to recapture ours up to the final 45-43.
Sixth place for Alessandro Miressi in the final of the 100 meters freestyle. Success of the American Caeleb Dressel, in front of the Australian Chalmers and the Russian Koleshnikov. Disappointed Jessica Rossi, gold medal in London 2012 that remains out of the final for clay pigeon shooting.
