Il Sol dell'Avvenire, the latest film by Nanni Moretti is competing for the Palme d'Or at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27, 2023). Moretti, one of the most important actor and director of Italian cinema, has already been awarded the Palme d'or in Cannes for The stanza del figlio in 2001 and president of the jury in 2012.

The new film is released in Italian theaters on April 20, 2023 with 01 Distribution, and then it will be presented on the Croisette in May. The protagonist of the new film, set between the 50s and 70s in the world of the circus and cinema, is the French actor and director Mathieu Amalric. The cast also includes Margherita Buy and Silvio Orlando, Barbora Bobulova, Elena Lietti, Jerzy Stuhr, Laura Nardi, Beniamino Marcone, Rosario Lisma, Flavio Furno, Francesco Brandi. And Nanni Moretti himself.
The film is shot at Cinecittà, where more than 40 years ago the director filmed Sweet Dreams and more recently habemus papam. Some scenes were also made for the streets of Rome, with crowd scenes including elephants in Via dei Fori Imperiali. The film is produced by Moretti with Sacher Film, by Domenico Procacci of Fandango with Rai Movie theater. The screenplay sees Nanni Moretti supported by the collaborators of all time or Valia Santella, Federica Pontremoli and Francesca Marciano.
